Barack Obama is Intellectually Indefensible

Posted in: 2008 Presidential Campaign, Cory Truax, Democrats

cory-thumb-2.jpgI have only a short post for you today, but I think it’s an important one.

My 3Conservatives colleague Ben Carnes has done an exquisite job of illustrating Barack Obama’s moral bankruptcy. Especially on the abortion issue, Ben has honestly portrayed the liberal messiah’s position to be morally indefensible.

Recently, though, Barack Obama blessed us with a riposte concerning foreign policy. He articulated a position that, as I will establish in the following post, is intellectually indefensible. Speaking of the Russian invasion of Georgia, Barack Obama offered the opinion that countries should not unilaterally invade another country to affect a change favorable to the invader. That was fine.

But he didn’t stop there. He continued with a sarcastic remark, positing that in that regard, America should lead by example.

And thus, Barack Obama implicitly compared the American invasion of Iraq and Russian invasion of Georgia. This comment makes me think we have not yet found the depths of Barack Obama’s foreign policy ignorance. If this is truly his understanding of the two invasions, he has a gross, irresponsible rendering of history meandering about in his head.

Let’s set the record straight, shall we?

First, you can read why we invaded Iraq here, in what may be my most scholarly, well-documented post on this site. But just on a bare philosophical level, you don’t have to be brilliant to see the divergences in the invasions.

America invaded a country with a brutal dictator that had been murdering and torturing his people for decades; Russia invaded a DEMOCRATIC country which it had formerly oppressed in bondage for decades.

America invaded a country that we documented as financially supporting and housing terrorists; Russia invaded a peaceful country that threatened its well-being in no manner.

America actually built a coalition of over twenty countries for the invasion of Iraq and after clear warning to Iraq’s leaders and people; Russia invaded by surprise unilaterally.

America invaded and is now seeking a withdrawal without monetary or land compensation; Russia invaded with the intention of increasing their power and land by force.

Let me say it clearly, Senator Obama: America’s invasion of Iraq and Russia’s invasion of Georgia ARE NOT moral equivalents. Furthermore, your insinuation that that is the case is irresponsible and offensive to any patriotic American. You were wrong to infer the comparison and I believe whole-heartedly my analysis here is a faithful representation of the facts. Period.
